#31in31 Update: A nudge to enjoy this beautiful Canadian winter…

So we’re past the halfway point of the #31in31 challenge and it’s coming along swimmingly. I’m down one run but I’m actually looking forward to making it up in the coming days.

One of the great things about the challenge is that makes me appreciate the cold even more. See the picture above as proof!

I find it hard to believe when people say that winter sucks. I guess it could if you stayed inside all day everyday but how fun would that be? Wait, some people actually do that?

I’m really enjoying the extra nudge. It’s not always easy to motivate yourself to head out for a run in the dark and cold exterior in the morning or after a long day. That’s especially true when you have more work to do, you’re tired or have some yummy wine in the cupboard. Sometimes I question my sanity during the first few minutes but every single time I’m so glad to have headed out!

I was talking about the fact that the challenge is a nice nudge to get out everyday with Michelle Kay, another challenger during the weekend. We were in the midst of participating in Joe’s Polar Dash for SchoolBOX. It was an awesome low-key run put on by local superstar Joe Rios to raise awareness and funds for both his upcoming expedition to Antarticathe and for SchoolBOX. It also helps that it ended at the new Equator Coffee location and there was some yummy free coffee and treats after!

It was a tad chilly but it was all part of the fun. We were being paced by Michelle’s daughter, a true trooper. We actually had to do a quick extra loop to make sure we did our 30 minutes but it was well worth it.

So are you getting out there? Is it making you embrace the winter a bit more?
