Now what? Post event blues anybody?

It happens to me after every major event I do, whether it’s organizing the Amazing People Gala, or completing a marathon or an Ironman.

Whenever you put a few months’ worth of sweat into an endeavour, it’s a weird feeling once it’s done. It’s a mix of and a definite sense of accomplishment. There’s always a bit of regret it went by so fast and that maybe you could have done more or better.

I vividly remember the night of my second Ironman in the summer of 2008. After a long day on the course, I came across the finish line and it was somewhat anti-climactic. I was more looking forward to pizza and chicken wings then anything else. And maybe some wine…

I remember the flight home feeling a bit weird since I didn’t have a training schedule to follow for the following week. Just a boring week of work? Maybe some wine? Catching up on life and friends? It’s weird but I haven’t done an Ironman or a marathon since then (minus a small ultra I attempted last year).

After months and months of preparation, we held the Amazing People Gala on Saturday night. It was pretty successful event where we honoured 42 local unsung heroes and raised more than $100,000 for two worthy causes. As Chair and c0-founder, it was a pretty big investment of time and brain power for me. But oh so rewarding!

So now what? I need a few weeks to figure that out. I need some R&R and some good runs to figure it all out. Time and perspective is best to figure out all of life’s issues, n’est pas?

What am I going to do now on weeknights since I don’t have Gala meetings? Maybe I should do some more training for that ultra.

And I’m sure I will get roped into something crazy soon enough…
