Next Challenge: Raid de la Gaspésie!

So next week at this time I will be almost halfway through my next challenge, the 4-day stage race known as the Raid de la Gaspésie.

This will be my first attempt at the adventure racing after my brother conned me into it a bit. It’s hard to refuse a cool challenge, especially since it’s somewhere pretty I haven’t been to in a long, long time.

This race will feature mountain biking, trail running, canoeing, zip lining and a lot of other challenges. This will definitely be out of my comfort zone but that’s part of the appeal. I think my endurance should be good but I hope my lack of skills in some of the sports and in orienteering will not hold us back too much.

We met last week to plan it all out and I think we have a great attitude about the race. Since this is a first for all of us, we’re simply looking to finish and survive all the challenges.. And maybe sweat a bit and have some fun along the way.

We have to camp out and make our own for the bulk of the race but good thing we have a “domestique” to help us out. It will be interesting to say the least. I think my emphasis on efficiency and enjoying the outdoors will come in handy during the long days out there. And I think the teamwork and camaderie will truly help the mental fortitude!

We’re known as the “Gang of Brothers” since we’re our team of 4 is two sets of brothers. Technically we should have been “Band of Brothers” after the HBO series but something got lost in translation…
