It’s not about you!

It really isn’t. That’s the message I got recently from an old friend. He might have added a few more pleasantries but he couldn’t be more right!

It seems the message is getting through to me on a few levels these days. When I’m out for a run, at a business meeting or out with friends.

It’s tough to explain in monetary terms but what I’ve seen is when you put your best foot forward and do some good work, it comes back to you. Call it pay it forward, call it what you want. It usually comes back.

One of things is most people want something right away when they’re giving away their time or efforts, myself included. I’m slowly getting away from that but it’s not easy. You want me to volunteer countless hours for your cause? Are you serious?

Look at the local superstars who give a lot. Do they look hungry? :)

It reminds me of the Zig Ziglar quote: “You can have everything in life that you want if you just give enough other people what they want.” So true!

It’s also been driven home while I’m helping out with the Amazing People Gala. I’m getting so much out of it, with way more to come, but it’s all about giving for me. I feel lazy and privileged when I hear those stories so it’s nice to be able to do my part…
