It pays to show up!

I came third in the Mad Trapper Series with yesterday’s result.  It was also billed as the National Snowshoe Racing 5K Championships so a 5th place isn’t so bad. And it’s not that I’m that great of a snowshoer (if that’s a word, I don’t even own snowshoes), it’s just, like life, it really pays to show up!

Here are the full results if you’re interested.

For those that know me, I’m not a speedster especially on hilly courses. I would usually come in the top 5 of the 5k races (which usually has less competition than the 10k where the studs are) and since I showed up to every one of them, I got rewarded.

Actually I just do these for fun. It’s nice to cross train and get out and sweaty in nature. It’s also a great atmosphere where people are friendly, and the conversation with local leaders is always interesting.

Looking at the results this morning and it just got me thinking that you don’t have to be the best at something but you do have to get out there and do it in order to get results. It transfers to just about everything in life.

I’ve been learning that fact first hand these days since I’m reading tons of books on business and self-improvement. The one constant message is to get out there and do whatever it is that you want to do. It’s how all successful people seem to get started!

Getting back to snowshoe racing, I’m hooked! I might even get some snowshoes for next season so I can get out and try to improve on those results!
