How you can get fear to work for you!

How you can get fear to work for you!

I get fearful just like the rest of you. Like I’m half scared of upcoming races since I haven’t really been running all that much since my #31in31 challenge.

I could just crumble thinking about the fact I have to do a 50k race in less than 60 days. But instead I will use it to motivate me to get out there more often and to build that mental fortitude.

I find just getting started and setting up a plan also alleviates a lot of mental stress. That’s kinda what I did last weekend. 8 weeks: Let’s do this!

It’s been said that fear can only take from you what you give it. So true!

Another big mental block will come out if I drop some weight. I’m good for my day-to-day activities but I find carrying extra weight makes a big differences as the distances grow. Good thing I have decent running form and a good base so I can do all of this without getting injured. As you know, I’d rather show up to the start line under-trained but also without injuries…

Confidence is big. Just thinking you can do something can go a long way. A little positive talk never hurt anyone but fear can hopefully make you go to the extra mile so you (and your ego) doesn’t fail…

As humans, we usually only do things when we really need to. We’re very good at procrastinating. Remember back in school, when did you get things done? If you’re like most people it was only right before they were due. We’re slaves to deadline. You can actually use those traits to your advantage. It’s one of the reasons I sign up for races, so it gets my butt in gear!

Also, I have a few spots left for my workshops in Ottawa and Halifax in the coming two weekends. All the details are on the workshop tab of my site!
