Hard work does pay off!

Hard work does pay off!

You hear that all the time but I can tell you from experience, it is very true. I’ll even give you some examples!

As you probably know, I’m a ChiRunning instructor  But when I started 3 years ago, I had to beg folks to join my courses. I also did countless free talks and runs just to get the awareness up. And it was still an uphill battle. And a lot of blogging and a lot of work behind the scenes happened.

And now I have a bit of a following in Ottawa anyway and let’s just say it’s a bit easier to fill my workshops since people don’t look at me funny when I mention the word ChiRunning.

Same goes for the activity of running, as it hasn’t always been easy for me. I could do it no problem if I just pushed or muscled through. And I usually paid for it the next day. Well since I picked up the ChiRunning book a few years back, I spent most of my time running working on my technique.

It’s paid off in spades as I’ve been injury-free since, I’ve gotten a bit faster and now I’m running just for fun mostly. I’m even doing an ultramarathon in a few months on minimal training.

I’ve been getting a lot more referrals and opportunities out of the blue these days. I’d like to think I’ve earned them with the hard work over the years but it’s still nice to see!

I even had a lady at one of the offices where I’m doing some work tell me I inspired her to do something physical and substantial every day this month, out of the blue, since she follows me on Twitter but she’s not a runner. How cool is that?

So if you’re going through a tough patch, just keep working hard and smart and there will be light soon enough at the end of the tunnel!

#31in31 Update: We’ve had some great weather for the runs in January in Ottawa. There has been a few colder days but overall, it’s been refreshing. A lot of snow on the sidewalks but they are getting better by the day. I now look forward to my nightly runs.

How’s your #31in31 journey coming along?
