Cleaning up my act…

So a few weeks I decided to get off the whatever train and start “training” again. It also coincided with the decision to do my first ultra. As I try to practice what I preach, it’s much easier and efficient to run long distances when you’re not carrying extra weight.

I was also a bit tired of not being at my best. Being “in shape” is all relative as I’m always fairly active but I wasn’t my old self.

I didn’t try to drop weight with a specific diet. The more I read about the new super gluten and the like, the less I liked what I read. Check out the video above for some info or check out my recent blog on the blood sugar book I read.

For me it simply meant going back to basics, with a diet rich in meat and veggies and low in gluten and grains.

I also picked up the activity level with my #31in31 challenge and some  fun winter activities like x-c skiing and hockey.

You know you’ve lost weight when your buddies tell you. Unlike some women I know, body image is not something we talk about when we get together to watch football so you know you’re doing well when that happens…

I actually haven’t stepped on a scale in a while, I’m kinda excited and nervous. I’m very happy with my results as I feel full of energy and great overall. Even with the hike in activity level, I’m not sore or drained. Quite the opposite. So the scale is a bit irrelevant right now.

Maybe I’ll try that scale thing in a few weeks…

Also, the good folks at ChiRunning International are doing a contest. It’s a pretty cool “Head-to-Toe” sweepstake with prizes from ChiRunning, Merrell, Nuun Hydration, Zoot Sports, Zico Coconut Water, and Injiinji.

Check it out for a chance to win over $500 in prizes!
