Can you say adventure? Looking forward to the next #TweetUp!

It’s most anticipated Health & Fitness TweetUp ever in Ottawa! Well it’s the one I’m looking forward to the most. Well since the last one of course. We’re flying in Simon Donato from Alberta so we can hear some wisdom and funny stories from him

For those who don’t know Simon, he is an explorer, adventurer, and extreme athlete. In 2012, he left his job as a geologist (he’s got a PhD!) to run a gluten-free oatmeal company called Stoked Oats, and to host an adventure TV show called Boundless. Boundless followed him, and long time friend Paul Trebilcock, for 18 weeks as they travelled the globe competing in grueling ultra-endurance races on both land and water. He raced over 1100 km on four continents, competing in everything from stand-up paddling to ultra-marathons to a 70.3 Ironman. Now that’s adventure!

In his spare time, he runs Adventure Science, a company which combines his love of scientific exploration and adventure, and pairs athletes and scientists together to explore remote and rugged areas in the name of science. Simon is a firm believer that we all control our destinies, and major changes always start with small, manageable ones. We can design and achieve the lives we want to live (love it!). He currently lives in Canmore, Alberta.

Simon will be speaking about his experiences during the filming of Boundless, from the hilarious to the life threatening and everything in between. He will also talk about nutrition, training for an experience like Boundless, and what he has learned from the experience, such as the importance of diet, proper training and recovery, as well as life’s little lessons. You can also follow him on Twitter at @AdventureSimon.

I met Simon almost 15 years ago through a common friend. I also went to university with his sister. And then we reconnected a few years ago at the same buddy’s wedding over the love of running. I’m sure he’ll tell a few embarrassing stories about me at the talk…

We will be going back to our usual digs at Rama Lotus.  It’s on Tuesday, May 28 at 7pm in the Community Room.

If you haven’t been a TweetUp before, don’t be scared. It’s fun and rather painless. No, it’s not a Twitter Chat where people just type away on their phones. I’ll even let you in without being on Twitter! It’s basically a meet up and networking event but it’s not stuffy and full of cool folks with an amazing guest speaker. And as always, with the events I put on, expect some follies and surprises…

Hope to see you out there!

I’m looking forward to heading back to Windsor in ten days or so. It seems more people are learning about the joys of ChiRunning through the great look by the Windsor Star’s Kelli into the technique. A great piece and there’s even a video!
