Book review: Thrive by Arianna Huffington

This book was suggested to me by the ever wonderful Kathy Smart and I’m very glad I listened to this lady once again. The premise of the book is all about the third metric, wellness. We’re all very aware of the lure of power and money, aka the first two metrics. The good thing is more and more of us are paying attention and becoming aware of the world around from what I can see.
You might have heard the name of the author, she is the founder and leader of Huffington Post, one of the most disruptive forces in media over the past 10 years. What you might know is that she had to do a hard reset after some health issues and this book stemmed from those experiences. It was great that I listened to the audiobook and the lady reading it had a strong Greek accent, it made it seem authentic.
We see a lot of successful business folks turn all good after they make their fortunes or get old but this book lays out a plan so you can do even if you’re not a millionaire or about to retire. It’s all about putting yourself and your wellness as a priority. It’s all about the little things.
There are some great tidbits in the book about fitness, especially in the realm of sleep and meditation. She also has some great tips about de-chaining ourselves from our technology and nutrition. She also has a great part about giving back and how it helps you so much as the “giver”. All bang on.
I especially love the fact that the book intertwines business and wellness without being too preachy. It’s explains that it’s basically the business of you. Like the famous quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, the first wealth is health. This book beautifully reminds you of that.
