Book Review: Bulletproof Diet by @DaveAsprey
Posted In: Fitness February 3rd, 2016 divider No Comments »If you think putting butter in your coffee is ri-dunk-ulous, then you probably won’t enjoy this book. But FYI, I started doing that almost two years ago now and I can’t see myself stopping…
He’s not advising just eating any fat but concentrating on good fats such as the ones found in avocadoes, coconut oil and grass-fed butter. Contrary to popular belief, this style of nutrition is not about eating two pounds of bacon for breakfast!
It’s mostly about eating non-starchy vegetables with fresh fish and meat and supplementing with some nuts and oils, with minimal fruit and starchy vegetables. He also advocates intermittent fasting, which I’ve been doing for months without any issues.
The good thing is that more and more research shows that a low-fat diet is not helping us at all by substituting fat with all kinds of sugar and empty carbs. I don’t see a problem with reversing that trend!
Another thing I enjoy with this approach is the fact that nothing is right or wrong, simply along the Bulletproof continuum. He brings forward some new approaches and science that will definitely challenge some beliefs but that’s okay in my books. He says to try these and see how you feel and go from there, as the book provides a guide.
This book is very Timothy Ferriss-ish and if you follow this blog, you’ll know that I’m a big fan! Dave Asprey is a former Silicon Valley exec who used hundreds of thousands of his own money to “hack” his body, health and nutrition. And he lives in Canada now.
The biggest impacts this style of nutrition has had on my life is it has cut my cravings out and has made me feel “on” from the moment I wake up. I’m rarely foggy anymore.
I highly recommend this book and his podcast, some of the best and most influential stuff in my life these days.
