Book review: “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle

The nice thing about the holidays is that I get to read more. I’ve been reading the Globe & Mail almost everyday and I just finished re-reading the great book by philosopher Eckhart Tolle. Didn’t Oprah make him famous? Regardless, a very inspirational fellow in my life.

The whole book is basically about bringing awareness into your daily life, something I’ve been working on for a few years. ChiRunning gave me a bit of a heads-up!

A lot of the book talks about breathing, very yoga-like. It really helps to take a few slow and deep breaths if you’re feeling overwhelmed or just to break up a hectic day. I’ve been starting some days with a bit of yoga while concentrating on breathing and it’s really helped my mood. Like the book mentions, nothing is good or bad. It just is!

It’s always interesting reading (or listening in my case) to a book for a second time. I used to never get it why folks read books more than once. As I get older and wiser, I get it now. I’m at a such different space in my life now and it actually seems like a different book to me.

Anyway, this book will shape part of my goals in 2013 to be more present and balanced. Stay tuned for more!

For some running news, check out our friend therunningclinic.ca’s blog. The latest posts are about hydration, as Blaise is doing an extensive review of “Waterlogged, The Serious Problem of Overhydration in Endurance Sports” by Dr. Tim Noakes in both official languages, of course.

It’s quite fitting for me with my first ultra coming up!
