Need help training for a major endurance/multisport/running race in 2017?

I’ve been coaching athletes for more than 15 years, starting all those years ago with high school football when I got my back injury in uni. It’s been a love and hate (mostly love) relationship ever since!

I find the best way to get motivated for a season of racing is to sign up for one. I will be doing that this month, stay tuned!

The mix of fear and excitement is usually enough to get you off the couch that day. But you need to be smart about it and most importantly, a plan that can be sustained for months. That’s why it’s a good idea to plan the training ahead of time and take into consideration your time constraints, your strengths/weaknesses, your budget and your goals.

If you’re looking for some advice and/or a sounding board, I’m here for you. I haven’t done much coaching for the past few years but I’m now back with much vigor. Partly because people kept asking and partly because I realized I bring a totally different mindset to the game.

I do have a few years of experience now, more than a decade now in fact with running and triathlon. I also bring with me my ChiRunning (minimalist) background and advanced courses in injury prevention and triathlon. And now with my Primal Health cert, I think I have a well rounded look at exercise and nutrition.

I think what truly sets me apart is my experience at almost every distance. I have never won a race (and I doubt I ever will) but I bring a common sense approach that’s all about applying the principles of efficiency and effectiveness. I don’t look like a long distance athlete so I had to work a bit smarter to finish races.

My motto is about less being more. Let’s concentrate on what can bring the most bang for your buck and keep you fresh mentally and physically throughout the entire year.

Who’s in for a fun and rewarding 2017?

P.S. I promise you you will look happier crossing the finish line than I did at my last Ironman…
