My recipe for gluten-free homemade energy bars

My recipe for gluten-free homemade energy bars

After reading the Blood Sugar Solution a few months back, I realized two things: I eat a lot of processed protein bars and it doesn’t have to be this way!

And I’ve been telling people about these bars recently so I got asked to post the recipe. This is as close to a recipe I can get…

I’ve used them for training and day-to-day nutrition. They are not cheap since I use a lot of quality ingredients but I know exactly what’s in them and they’re fun and easy to make. See the pic for last night’s batch.

They are also gluten-free and pretty healthy. And oh so yummy.

Here are the usual ingredients:

  • A few cups of large flake oats
  • A few table spoons of cocoa powder
  • A few healthy dabs of peanut butter
  • Some hemp hearts
  • Some ground flax seed
  • An egg
  • A very healthy helping of dark chocolate chips
  • A helping of protein powder
  • Apple sauce
  • A pinch of magic baking powder
I bring all the ingredients in a bowl and just mix and add apple sauce until it’s thick but all mixed up. I make small “cookies” and then I bake it all on a large cookie at 350 degrees for 12 minutes or so. As you can probably tell, I ad-lib a lot of my recipes. I add a few things when I feel like it or adjust the quantities accordingly.

Let me know if you try them or if you have any other great yummy and healthy recipes.

Happy eats!
