As some of you know, I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to researching some of my favourite subjects such as biomechanics, training principles and nutrition. So when I heard about a book that would explain more about

And as usual, I didn’t actually read it, I listened to it when I was driving around town over the past week and a bit.

Here are some of the highlights in my opinion:

  • Our food is full of crap. So going back to basics such as veggies and meat is the best way to go
  • Some of the food created these days is more addictive than some drugs
  • Your bodies are incredible pieces of work but you should help them along as much as you can
  • This could be the first generation of folks who will be sicker and will have shorter lives than their parents
  • Functional medicine should be the way we move forward. Prevention instead of treatment

I went to a grocery store last night to pick up a few things and trust me, it will get you looking at foods, especially processed foods, in a different way. To me, it’s very similar to Timothy Ferriss’s Four Hour Body or the South Beach Diet but with way more details and scientific explanations.

To me, that’s part of the drawback. Like most book, it could have been cut in half and still done the job. And the author gets into too much detail and gets too preachy, especially in the last few chapters.

And I chatted with some friends of mine who are medical doctors and they agreed with this stuff, but it seems most people don’t have a keen interest in living healthy lives when food can be so easy to find and cheap. As usual, the gap isn’t with the knowledge part, it’s with the awareness and/or the application.

Overall though, a great eye opener and it’s changed the way I look at feeding myself for sure. Here’s the site for more info, it seems there is a lot of good tools and info on it.
