A little balance goes a long way…

I’ve been lacking balance the past few months and my body (and the scale) has been feeling it. The past few months have been extremely busy and I’ve been neglecting my body and my health. I love business lunches as much as the next consultant but unfortunately they have been the norm these days.

Physical activity and optimal health can be a fickle thing. I find the same thing can be said for reading for me. You get away from good habits for a few days and it’s a slippery slope.

There was a time when I was putting too much stock in my weight/VO2 max/bike splits. I remember a few summers ago when I was training for Ironman and my latest triathlon times would make or break my week or even worse, my month.

These days I’ve probably been putting too much emphasis on my professional world. Granted I just started a new practice and practice area but trust me too much ying to your yang is not good in the long run.

One of the good things is I’m more self-aware nowadays so I can adjust on the fly. I’m not exactly where I want to be but I’m in a great place overall so I’m looking to take my day-to-day from great to awesome. It’s not a bad place to be, now I just need to inject a few more occasions of fun physical activity!

Further to this post, I’m announcing a challenge for January. This is not new but I want to go 31-for-31 in January 2012. 31 runs in 31 days!

The rules:
-Run must be at least 30 minutes
-You can skip a day but then you must run on two separate occasions for 30 minutes each the following day
-We keep each other accountable by posting results on FB/Twitter/blogs
-Winner gets bragging rights and maybe a special prize for locals…

Who’s in?
