Next adventure: @Raid_Gaspesie 300k 4-day adventure race

So I got suckered again to take part in the upcoming Raid de la Gaspésie by my brother. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for punishment?

It’s funny, I was mentioning the race to a friend who quipped “And you pay for that?”. Yes we do!

In its defense, it’s a beautiful region and the 4 days make you feel more alive than almost anything I’ve ever done. It’s literally the most difficult physical challenge/race I’ve ever done as well though. It’s like an Ironman everyday for 4 days except you have no idea where the course is…

If you don’t know what an adventure race is all about, check out the video above. I didn’t know before last year but now I maybe be somewhat hooked. This is from a race a few years ago but it’s quite a good interpretation of what was in store for us last year. We didn’t win (not even close) but we made every check point and officially finished in our first attempt. And it only took us 36 hours to do so.

Personally I have a different attitude and expectations going into this one. Our first foray into it wasn’t easy but it was quite an experience. Now we want to top that. I actually did some training and with my recent changes in my diet and lifestyle, I feel way healthier and fitter.Raid1

All I can tell you is that I’m looking forward to spending quality time with my brother and some friends in nature. The weather is looking good (sunny and high teens/low 20’s) and we have some confidence from finishing last year.

At this time next week, we’ll be almost halfway through our last day.  And all I’ll be able to think about is the amazing beer we had at the finish line. Let’s hope it doesn’t fail me this year!
